MINNESOTA CRAFT BREWERIES TAKE HOME MEDALS AT PRESTIGIOUS WORLD BEER CUP AWARDS

Six breweries earn medals in international competition

MINNEAPOLIS — Six Minnesota craft breweries were honored for their beers at the 2024 World Beer Cup Awards Ceremony in Las Vegas, Nev., on Wednesday, April 24, 2024.

The World Beer Cup (WBC) is the most prestigious beer competition in the world, with brewers competing for gold, silver, and bronze medals in 110 categories. In one category, the German-Style Doppelbock or Eisbock category, Minnesotan breweries took both third and first place.

This year’s WBC had over 9,000 entries from over 2,000 breweries from around the world. Professional beer judges awarded medals to beers that met the highest level of quality and that perfectly exemplify their style. Known as “the Olympics of beer,” these awards are among the most coveted and respected honors in the brewing industry.

Minnesota Gold Medals:

  • Bent Paddle Brewing Co., Duluth: “Little Dussel Do-Ya”—German-Style Altbier
  • Northbound Smokehouse & Brewpub, Minneapolis: “Doppelbock”—German-Style Doppelbock or Eisbock

Minnesota Silver Medals:

  • Excelsior Brewing Co., Excelsior: "Big Island Citrus Blonde Ale"—Fruit Beer
  • Lupulin Brewing, Big Lake: “Dortmunder”—Dortmunder/Export of German-Style Oktoberfest

Minnesota Bronze Medals:

  • BeerClub Brewing, Mora: “Doppel (doppel) Bock (bock)”—German-Style Doppelbock or Eisbock
  • Pryes Brewing Co., Minneapolis: “Idyll Forest - Soirée”—Mixed-Culture Brett Beer

"This is a testament to the passion, talent, and hard work of Minnesota’s craft breweries and brewpubs," said Jess Talley, Executive Director of the Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild. “These awards reinforce something craft beer fans have known all along: some of the best beer in the world is made right here, by our neighbors and friends, in communities all throughout Minnesota.”

The WBC awards ceremony is held annually in conjunction with the Craft Brewers Conference & BrewExpo America, America's largest craft brewing industry gathering, which was held in Las Vegas April 21–24.
